faq about James and skydancer tantra massage
(if you have a question that's not answered here, please email me.
I'm happy to respond - usually within 24 hours)
Q: How do I prepare for a session?
A: Good question! First the basics... PLEASE be showered clean immediately before you arrive. This includes brushing your teeth and wearing deodorant. I will do my best to look and smell good for you. I ask that you do the same. If you don’t have time to shower before your appointment, you may use my facilities. Secondly, give some thought as to what you would like to get out of the session. If there is something specific you want help with, let me know before hand and I will be prepared for you. Lastly, let go of all expectations. Have an open heart & mind, and surrender to the journey.
Q: What happens if I'm early (or late) for my appointment?
A: Please do NOT arrive early. Even if you're only 5 minutes early, I will not be able to accommodate you. Because I need a certain amount of time to prepare for every session, I ask that you arrive on time and not before. If you happen to arrive with time to spare, I suggest going for a walk in the neighbourhood, grabbing a tea or even just relaxing in your vehicle until the exact appointment time. If you’re running late, please call or text me as soon as possible to let me know. Thanks~
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If, for any reason you can’t make your scheduled appointment, please let me know with at least 24 hours notice, otherwise you will be expected to pay the full session rate. Thank you for respecting my time and my fees.
Q: If I book a 90 minute session, how long is the actual massage?
A: The amount of time you’re on the massage table depends on several factors, such as whether you will need to shower (before or after the massage), how long the consultation may take and whether you will need time for integration and rest after the treatment. This is all included in your scheduled appointment time. During your first treatment, the consultation usually takes 10 or 15 minutes, which is why I recommend at least a 90 minute session the first time you see me.
Q: Are we naked during the session?
A: The degree of clothing we wear during a session is based on your comfort level. If you’re comfortable with nudity, then we may both be naked (or partially naked) during the massage. If you want to remain partially or even fully clothed, that's ok too. My energy treatments can be done with all your clothes on.
Q: Do you allow mutual touch during the massage?
A: Yes, I do allow mutual touching, IF it is gentle and respectful. However, I ask that you wait until your back, neck and shoulders have been massaged... so you can more fully relax and enjoy the experience.
Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: Thanks for asking! I accept cash, PayPal, e-Transfer (send to james[at] skydancer.ca) and all major credit cards (charged from SkyDancer Healing Arts). Also Bitcoin. ;) Payment is due either prior to OR by the end of each session.
Q: Do you accept tips?
A: Yes! If you genuinely feel like showing your appreciation with a financial gift, then I will gratefully accept. Tips are not required, but always appreciated. Most satisfied clients give between $10-$50.
Q: Are you vaccinated? Do you work with both vaccinated and unvaccinated clients?
A: I am not vaccinated. I do work with both "vaxxed" and "unvaxxed" clients. HOWEVER, if you've recently received the jab (or booster), then I simply ask that you wait at least 7 days before booking an appointment.
Q: What hours do you work?
A: My general business hours are Monday thru Saturday from 2pm - 10pm. Sunday is my day off.
Q: How far in advance do I need to book?
A: I'm usually booked one to two weeks in advance. On rare occasions, I can accommodate last minute requests, so it's worth a try. But if you have a specific day and time that you'd prefer to come, give me as much notice as possible.
Q: How often should I come to see you?
A: How often you come to see me depends on your own personal situation. I have clients that come as often as once/week because they value the emotional and spiritual support. I have other clients that come once a month simply for relaxation and replenishment. And still, sometimes my clients will come once every two or three months just to give themselves some pampering. Even a single session can have a profound effect. We will discuss what your needs are and design an approach that works for you.
Q: Do you ever have sex with your clients?
A: I don't have sex with men, sorry (see below). But if you're a woman wanting to explore beyond massage and enjoy a more interactive session - we can talk about that during your consultation (or through email). I do not charge $ for specific sexual acts.
Q: Are you gay? (Straight, or bi?)
A: In terms of my sexual orientation... I like the term ‘heteroflexible’. I am comfortable with my sexuality and fluid in my ability to share intimate touch with all genders. I do however, have different boundaries with men than I do with women, based on my own natural instincts.
Q: Do you offer prostate massage?
A: No, sorry. If you’re a person with a penis looking for this service, then you'll have to find another practitioner. My massage is deeply relaxing, but not that deep. ;)
Q: How do couples sessions work?
A: Typically one partner will take a turn on the massage table, while the other watches for about 15 or 20 minutes. At some point, they may join in, treating their partner to a luxurious 4 hand massage! And then later, you may switch places, so both partners can enjoy some time on the table (optional). If you're looking for a more interactive session, we can discuss this during your consultation (or through email). Each couples session can be tailored to your specific needs.
Q Do your clients ever fall in love with you (or you with them)?
A: Because of the sacred, intimate nature of this work, many feelings can arise both during and after a session. Feelings of love, grief, anger, fear, pleasure, arousal, bliss etc… and it can sometimes be overwhelming or even difficult to process. One thing to keep in mind is that everything that comes up during (or after) a session is meant for integration and healing. And sometimes it can take a while before things settle and make sense. The happy chemicals that get released during a treatment can create “chemical thinking”. Essentially, our normal judgement may be affected by feelings of deep connection and euphoria. It’s normal to feel loved and cared for during a treatment. But this doesn’t necessarily mean that we are compatible as romantic partners. It IS a result of creating a sacred container for intimate work and the practice of tantra itself, which can reveal our true nature - which is unconditional love.
Q: Are you a registered massage therapist or 'official' sex therapist? Can I claim you on my medical benefits?
A: In simple terms, NO I am not registered as a massage or sex therapist. There are strict rules about nudity and sexual touch that must be adhered to in order to maintain a licence in BC. It is unlikely that anyone "in the system" would risk having their licence revoked by doing intimate touch or erotic massage. I can provide receipts for my service, but you will not be able to claim them as an RMT expense.
Q: How long have you been doing this work?
A: I have been exploring sexuality for as long as I can remember. And I have studied and integrated many different healing modalities over the past 20+ years... starting my first massage practice in 1999. It was in August of 2007 that I took a ‘leap of faith’ and began doing Tantra Massage full time. Since then, I have continued to learn and grow and expand the nature of my practice.
Q: Where does the name SkyDancer come from?
A: ‘SkyDancer’ is the literal translation of the Sanskrit term Daka, which refers to one who is a living embodiment of the Tantric wisdom teachings, capable of activating these states of consciousness in others.
Q: Tell me about your hawk logo...
A: The hawk is my shamanic power animal. It represents vision... protection... and is a messenger from the Spirit world, awakening soul purpose; uniting heaven and earth. Within the design, there is a heart, sacred yoni (female genitals), sacred lingham (male genitals) and the fluid of life, which signify the merging of masculine and feminine sexual energy with the vibration of LOVE... creating heaven on earth.
